Success Reflection is based on the 'VESIt' model, developed by Fred Korthagen, Ko Melief en Anke Tichelaar. The idea is that an experience-based approach is most effective for learning which is closely linked to professional practice. In an experience-based approach the starting-point is the students' practical experience, which will stimulate them to ask questions. The focus does not lie on theory but on the questions arising from practical experience. It's about what really concerns the students, what they come up against and what they want to find a solution for.
Reflection is a means of integrating theory and practice. The student learns, under guidance, how to find words for relevant experiences they have encountered in practice, to structure these, to compare them to the experience of others, and to make a link to theory. This leads the student to a 'practical theory' or 'rule of thumb'.
Success Reflection is also based on David Cooperrider's Appreciative Inquiry method.
